Journaling Technique...Use a News Article Tie-In

"Tree famous from diary of Anne Frank will be razed"

This headline caught my attention. We toured the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam in fall 2001. I'll never forget how stunned all three of us were. The thought of children being locked away from the sunlight, kept unnaturally quiet and in constant fear upset all three of us. Michael, then eleven, took it particularly hard. He was so upset he had a difficult time talking afterwards. He just kept repeating, "How could they have?"

I couldn't answer him because I was just as overwhelmed.

I've not scrapbooked our photos from the house, but now I have a new impetus. I'll use this newsclip to add interest and an update. It was too hard to scrapbook our feelings back then...but maybe after all these years, the words will come more easily.

You can add any newsclip to your pages. If you are concerned about acid, spray them with Archival Mist or scan the image onto "safe" paper.

Page Idea-Way to Go! Courage

My sister's Chihuahua is too, too cute. His name is COURAGE. But he's really very shy. He wanted NOTHING to do with me. That nearly broke my heart. I was scheduled to stay in Florida for 3 months-and 3 months without any canine company was my idea of H**l. But I knew the way to a little dog's heart. "Walkies." And he and I became good pals after several long rambles.

This is a simple page. I used my new Cricut for the lettering. The acrylic paint on the photo edges and the fleur-de-lis amp up the design.

This Issue's Contest-Win a Copy of Dolled Up for Murder

I met Deb Baker at Love Is Murder, a conference for mystery writers. You can't miss Deb's terrific smile-or her friendly personality. Currently, Deb writes two mystery series. (Wow. That means she writes a book every six months!)

One series features Gretchen Birch, a doll collector. Gretchen finds a message clutched in the fist of a destitute former doll collector found dead at the bottom of a cliff. It says: Caroline Birch. Put her away. A person seen fleeing the crime scene fits Caroline's description. All evidence points to her as the killer, but Gretchen knows Caroline is innocent. The problem is Caroline has disappeared-and she's left behind an urgent warning that Gretchen is in danger, too.

Blogging My Way Through Life

Deb and I got to talking about how much we love our hobbies. And we came up with an idea-we thought a blog about our hobbies, and our work as mystery authors might be fun for our readers. Of course, keeping a blog fresh and relevant can be a lot of work. So, we invited other mystery authors to join us. Our crew includes Monica Ferris on needlepoint, Linda O. Johnson on pets, and Rett MacPherson on genealogy. I cover scrapbooking and Deb covers doll collecting. We also have a list of guest bloggers waiting in the wings.
