What is greeking?
If you've ever heard someone say, "It's all Greek to me!" You already have a
hint of what greeking is.
It's indecipherable language. You see, if you want to indicate where verbiage
goes in an ad or a layout, you have a problem because when you use "real" words,
people naturally try to read what you wrote. So...designers came up with a
nonsensical version of dummy text that is, hopefully, unreadable.
How can you use greeking?
When you are working on a scrapbook layout, you might wonder which font would
look best. After all, a few of us are fontaholics, scrapbookers who'll download
a font quicker than you can type "Times Roman." And when you have so many fonts
to choose from, you want to get the "look" just right. Different fonts have
different flavors if you will. They tell our eyes this is stilly or this is
serious or this is romantic. Greeking gives you a way to print out different
fonts without worrying about what you say.
